Milestones
Substance abuse, particularly alcohol and drug addiction, has a profound impact on individuals, families, and communities. Beyond the physical toll, addiction strains relationships, damages family well-being, and creates widespread social unrest. As awareness of these effects grew, social workers began offering support through counselling and education, leading to the formation of the Alcohol and Drug Addicts Research, Rehabilitation, and Treatment Centre (ADARRT) in Kerala in 1984. ADARRT was founded on August 15, 1984, in Pala, Kottayam district, Kerala, as the state’s first dedicated de-addiction treatment centre. At the time, addiction was rarely recognized as a medical condition requiring treatment, and resources for rehabilitation were limited. ADARRT came into existence on August 15. Bishop Sebastian Vayalil inaugurated the centre near St. thomas Press Pala as counselling centre
1986
Day care center activities initiated on 15th August.
1987
Initiated full time treatment at the centre and the centre shifted to Pattathil buildings, pala on September 7
1988
ADARRT got registered on September 28
1989
ADARRT office shifted to another convenient office space near Pala Puthenpalli on March 1
1994
ADARRT centre converted as a 15 bedded hospital with inpatient admission
1995
Received grant from Ministry of social Justice and Empowerment,Govt.of india for the functioning of ADARRT
1995
Initiated ADARRT CLUB for educating the School going children on the evil effects of drug abuse and thus making them good citizens of the country.
